2006 Saluda Coon Dog Days

Saluda, NC – The sleepy little North Carolina town of Saluda, just of Interstate 26 between Asheville on the North Carolina side and Spartanburg in South Carolina will come alive on Saturday morning as the annual Saluda Coon Dog Day parade and festival comes to town. As a prerequisite to big doings in which the town literally “goes to the dogs,” the Shiloh Coon Club held an AKC trophy hunt on Friday night with five casts going to the woods and all returning with plus points. Coons were moving well and all the winning handlers naturally testifying to having a good hunt.

These hounds will return on Saturday night to try for the coveted 2006 Saluda Coon Dog Day Champion title. The winner takes the title, the winner’s trophy, a 21-volt K Light belt light, and his or her choice of a large array of prizes including a dog box, a Tri-tronics 2-dog Trashbreaker Ultra trainer, a Bright Eyes Light, and a host of other prizes. Each finisher will have a choice as long as the prizes last, picking in order of their finish.
The Saluda Coon Dog Day Bench Show will take place at 1 PM, following the Coon Dog Day Parade. Look for the big white AKC tent on the right as you enter town from Interstate 26.
Mild temperatures are the order of the day with a high in the low 80's forcasted for Saturday. It's going to be a great day so come on down to the North Carolina mountains and have a great "Coon Dog Day" with us. We look forward to seeing you. Come early because the crowd will be huge.
