7/9/2006  2:59:49 AM

Saluda, NC – The streets are quiet in sleepy little Saluda, North Carolina after an exciting day of events ranging from parades, bench shows, treeing contests, crowds of thousands, and as a night cap, the final night of the Saluda Coon Dog Days Championship.

Taking top honors was Charles Craig of Parolet, South Carolina with a Treeing Walker male named Tar Heel Psycho’s Son. Son won his cast both nights at Saluda with a combined score of 725 plus points.

Top Honors as the Reserve Champion went to Claude Keever of Rutherfordton, NC with his Treeing Walker female Broad River Bonnie, handled by Ricky Montgomery, also of Rutherfordton. Bonnie also posted two cast wins and a total score of 700 plus points in a real barn burner of a contest for the Championship. Bonnie is shown at right with the Bright Eyes 17-volt belt light she earned, donated by Ray Conrad.

Colt Prince, also of Rutherfordton, North Carolina finished third overall with two cast wins posted by his Treeing Walker male, Yadkin River Prince’s Pride. Pride had a combined score of 312 ˝ plus points and earned a 14-volt Bright Eyes Belt Light donated by Ray Conrad. Fourth place with a single cast win of 612 ˝ plus on Friday night was Bum’s Little Nick, owned by Jamie and Casey Brown of Marion, North Carolina and handled by Jamie Brown. Bum earned a Sportsman's Dog Box. Placing fifth with a single cast win and 325 points on Friday night was Smith’s Belly, a Treeing Walker female owned by Carroll Smith of Hendersonville, North Carolina and handled by Michael Simpson of Flat Rock, North Carolina.
