AKC North Carolina State Championship

Lincolnton, NC – Jack Frost's brushing the summer's leaves with white was the first visible sign of fall here in Carolina. The result was a perfect setting for the 2006 AKC North Carolina State Championship. The two nights of competition hunts finished with several coon scored. The high-scoring dog of the first night’s hunt was Bugger Branch Ajax, a three-year-old Treeing Walker male owned by Jeff Wilson of Waxhaw, NC and handled by Tony Bergamy of Belmont, NC. Ajax scored 1025 plus while competing in one of the AKC Night Hunt format casts running on Friday night.

The format for the NC State Championship featured an added purse of $500 to be split between the top 4 cast winners in the two-night hunt. The hunt featured both the AKC night hunt and the AKC Black Gold – Gold Medal formats on Friday night and an AKC Night Hunt format event on Saturday. Coons appeared to be moving better on Friday night with all four of the high scores on the first night holding up on the second night of competition.
