Bench Show Spectacular enters 2nd year

Raleigh, NC - The Coonhound Events Department of the American Kennel Club is proud to announce the second season of the extremely popular AKC Black Gold Bench Show Spectacular Series, a year-long competition in which $10,000.00 will be awarded to the year-end leaders! The series set the record for Bench Show awards with the 2007 competition. Never had this kind of money been available to coonhound bench show exhibitors before!
The 2007 award winners will share honors with the Top 16 at the AKC National Championship in Greensburg, Indiana on Saturday, May 10th when the award checks will be presented by Black Gold Dog Food president John Allen. AKC is currently conducting the final tabulations of the 2007 competition and will be officially announcing the category winners soon.
Now is the time to begin your quest for “Black Gold” by entering an AKC-licensed Bench Show near you. The competition runs from January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2008.
• All AKC coonhound bench shows participate
• The winners of Best Male and Best Female in Registered, Champion, Grand Champion, and Supreme Grand Champion classes earn two (2) Spectacular points.
• A run-off of the winners above must be held at every AKC coonhound bench show in the 2008 year. The winner of the run-off (overall winner) earns five (5) bonus points. Competition is required in the run-off in order to earn the bonus points.
• Certain major shows will be called “Signature” shows with ten (10) bonus points being awarded. Black Gold's new "Signature Series" premium dog food is the namesake for the "Signature" shows.
• Standings will be maintained on at http://www.akccoonhounds.org/asp/showstandings/showstats.asp?action=display
and in American Cooner magazine.
• The dog with the most points within each of the six coonhound bree ds will receive $1,000.00 at the end of the competition.
• The dog with the most points overall will receive $2,000.00 more for a total of $3,000.00.
• The dog with second most points overall will receive 1,000.00 more for a total of $2,000.00 if the dog is also a breed winner.
• The Youth Handler (seventeen years and younger and possessing a Junior Handler’s number) with the most points overall will receive a $1000.00 scholarship from Black Gold Dog Food.
