Big Trouble at the AKC Fall Classic

Salisbury, NC - Dawn was creeping over the Rowan County Fairgrounds this morning as the lights of a caravan of pickups appeared out of the darkness from the west along Julian Road. This was the last of 39 casts that hunted the 2008 AKC Fall Classic returning to the fairgrounds and naturally, the most important. The Final Four hunted for one hour and the action began with the dogs running a coon into the ground. One coon was treed on the cast and two hounds tied on score with one emerging victorious by way of most tree points. That hound would be the 2008 AKC Fall Classic Champion. In addition to the championship title and trophy there would be a myriad of the sport's most coveted prizes including the hot new Garmin Astro 200 GPS-enabled tracking system with the new DC-30 collar, a Tri-tronics 2-dog Ultra training system, a Kelley's K-Light 21-volt belt light, a Diamond Deluxe dog box from Jackson Creek Supply, a big bag of Ultra Dog Food, and a check in the amount of $2,200.00! Wow!
Shown in the photo at top is the 2008 AKC Fall Classic Champion, Buckhorn Mtn Nighttime Trouble, a Treei ng Walker male owned by James M. Atwell, Sr. and David Reynolds of Bastian, Virginia and Natural Bridge, Virginia respectively. Trouble is a littermate to the Call Him The Streak dog hunted by James K. Atwell and is sired by Rat Attack and out of a Buckhorn Mtn Nightime Savage female. Congratulations to David Reynolds and Trouble and a huge "thank you" to the Southeastern Treeing Walker Association for hosting an extremely successful AKC World Qualifying Event!
Look for this event to grow significantly in the years to come, given the history of this organization. Many hunters let the deadline slip by and several didn't realize that the event was "advance entries only." Despite that, 200 advance entries were received with 150 dogs actually hunting in this event. It was a great weekend weatherwise and sportsmanship ruled the day. There were no questions brought back to the Hunt Committee all weekend
