Parker and Jones are Black Gold champs
2/1/2009  1:18:35 AM

Eufaula, AL - The 2008 AKC Black Gold - Gold Medal series championship came to a close in a display of coon treeing ability by some top hounds. The contest went down to the wire with two Alabama hounds within 50 points of each other and the North Carolina female a scant 50 points behind them.

Eddy Parker of Newville, Alabama and Jimmy Jones of Ariton, Alabama come home a winner for the second time in the three year history of the championship. Eddy's brother Bob finished second last year behind Danny Gibson and Tim Sellers' T-Bone dog with his female, Buckhill's Miss Style.

It was a great championship all the way around with three coons being treed on the final cast, one by Terry Gregory's Fly female and two by the tandem of Lance and Bob Dudley's Almost Quick dogs. Strike points hurt the North Carolina female's efforts but she certainly made a strong account of herself in a tightly contested cast.

My hat is off to the Barbour County Coon Hunters Association. They've done a great job with the championship and the open events this week and beside that, are just all around great folks to work with. I always look forward to the January trip to Eufaula.

I also want to thank Micky Gilmore who judged the final cast and has been the go-to guy for the entire championship project. Micky is a great guy to work with and we always have a lot of fun with this hunt. Thanks Micky! Micky was assisted by Danny Wiggins on the cast tonight.

For those of you that would like to enjoy the competition and fanfare of the AKC Black Gold - Gold Medal Championship, now is the time to be putting those Black Gold - Gold Medal cast wins together in anticipation of the championship next January.
