DNR to Conduct Public Hearing on Deer Farming Regulations February 1
The public is invited to attend a hearing relating to the regulation of deer farming in West Virginia. The hearing will be held February 1 from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. at the Norman L. Fagan West Virginia State Theater at the Cultural Center on the State Capitol Complex grounds in Charleston.
Presentations and public comment will be limited to the proposed DNR-filed legislative rule for 58 CSR 64, titled Miscellaneous Permits and Licenses. This rule establishes the regulations, licensing and procedures for deer farming in West Virginia. Ten-minute presentations will be given by four speakers on behalf of the rule and four speakers against the proposed legislative rule governing deer farming.
The hearing will then be opened to public comment. Each individual will have three minutes to voice comments. Anyone wishing to speak must sign up at the theater between 1:15 p.m. and 1:55 p.m. the day of the meeting. DNR Director Frank Jezioro will serve as moderator for the hearing.
The Capitol complex can be reached by taking Exit 99 at Greenbrier Street off Interstate 64/77 in Charleston. For more information, call the Division of Natural Resources at 304-558-2771.

Message from the Director:
" The WV DNR believes this has major implications to all hunters, trappers, and anglers in WV.
"If this small group can take away the ability of the DNR to set proper regulations on these high fence deer pens ( can't really call them farms) then there are other small groups out there that would stop catch and release fishing, training dogs year round, hunting with dogs on public lands. They are watching to see how successful this group is.
"If hunters and anglers out there support the DNR position on the rule regulation the high fence deer pens they need to show up in Charleston for the meeting AND call all their delegates and senators and tell them that "We support the DNR on the Rule regulating the Deer pens." And wear their orange hats!
"The Wild Turkey Federation put an action alert on their website that lists every senator and delegate, their e-mail, phone number and address. The sportsmen and women need to respond and be counted.
"Right now there is a feeling in Charleston that the Hunters, trappers and fishermen are no longer a group to reckon with. They have not heard from or seen this group for a while and many are telling them that they can pass legislation affecting this group and they will not stand up and be counted.
"I BELIEVE THEY ARE WRONG, I HOPE I AM NOT WRONG!. We at the DNR can't protect your rights alone. We need your help. "
Thanks,
Frank Jezioro, Director
West Virginia Department of Natural Resources
