“Parent Club of the Treeing Walker Coonhound in AKC”
Salisbury is the place to be on the last weekend of February as the Southeastern Treeing Walker Association hosts its annual Southeastern Treeing Walker Days. Begun in Madison, North Carolina as the first super-successful major “regional” breed hunt, the event has surpassed all other breed hunts in the nation in terms of entries and crowd attendance. The 2006 event certainly lived up to its heritage.
The AKC Coonhound Events Management Team was represented by Lyndell Price, Jerry Moll, and myself. We were the invited guests of the SETWA Board of Directors for their annual banquet, hosted by Nestle Purina Pet Care and Purnia Representative Eddie Wylie. Held at the Holiday Inn, the meal was delicious and m most appreciated!
Our booth was swamped each day. We took 500 coonhound registration applications with us to Salisbury and used them all! We appreciate everyone that came by the booth to say hello and to let us assist them in registering their dogs with AKC.
Tony Ray of Kelford, NC, whom many will remember as the hunter that bought the famed GRNITECH Tar Heel Nitro dog when Allen Shoe of Kannapolis, NC passed away about 5 years ago, honored the late Mr. Shoe by winning the first ever Allen Shoe Memorial Hunt on Thursday night. Tony hunted NITECH Stylish Patch to the prestigious victory, beating 80 other hounds with a score of 925 plus for the honor.
Shown is Tony Ray with Stylish Patch, winner of the Allen Shoe Memorial Hunt on Thursday night.
