The 16 dog AKC Black Gold/Gold Medal event at Hamilton, Indiana went off "without a hitch" last evening. The Dekalb guys did a fantastic job!! Judging by the entries, this was a "battle of the breeds". This was one of the few events that I have attended in recent times when "dogs of color" outnumbered the Walkers. There were eight Blueticks, seven Treeing Walkers, and one English rounding out the sixteen entries.
As the day turned into night, a sliver of moon, a crisp 40 degree evening with an abundance of coon made for some fast and furious action, giving way to frost and a little more of a challenge for the dogs. One cast reported on scoring on three coon in the first 40 minutes of the hunt! WOW!! Keep in mind casts will be guided into this same hunting ground while competing in the 2006 AKC World Championship in September.
After two hours of hunting time the casts returned to the clubhouse with many stories to tell, but no formal questions and no problems reported.
