West Virginia State Race heats up!

Princeton, WV - The West Virginia state race has become a real barn burner and the two leaders, coming into last night’s AKC event in Princeton, West Va., were tied at six cast wins each.
Gary Lilly with his Walker female Dot moved up on Melvin Bishop and his Black and Tan female Dawn with a win at Coal City last Saturday night. Bishop regained the lead last night at the Mercer County Coonhunter’s Club by winning his cast while Lilly on the other hand could not reciprocate, surrendering the cast win to Les Bolen with a Plott male named Bolen’s Clyde.
Bishop with seven cast wins is well on the way to the AKC Grand Nite Champion title as is Lilly with six wins. The leaders no doubt are mindful that the overall State Leader will receive $50 per cast win up to the maximum of $500 at year’s end and each dog in the State and Breed Top 16 will earn a berth in the AKC National Championship featuring a minimum $25,000 purse.
Official winners last night at Princeton were:
Senior Cast – Dawn, Black and Tan female, Melvin Bishop, Princeton, WV, 200 plus
Cast winner – Bolen’s Clyde, Plott male, Les Bolen, Ghent, WV, 375 plus
