Ticks and Skeeters and Bugs, Oh My!!

Yes, it’s that time of year again. You’ll need to break out your snake boots, coon squaller, amber lens, skeeter dope and stick some extra bottles of water in your truck before you head out to the woods these days. Yes, the nights of snuggling up in your favorite flannel lined coonhunting coat are long gone until fall, but there is good news. The young coons are just now starting to move into the mulberry trees, the swamps and the berry bushes in search of food. It won’t be long and you’ll be having some good old fashioned cornfield races to enjoy while sitting on the tailgate and enjoying the muggy night air. With the longer days and daylight savings time, the coonhunter finds himself in the woods after midnight very easily these days, but hey it does start getting cooler by then.
Remember, get plenty of fluids in you and your hound and don’t over do it in the heat and humidity of the summer woods. It won’t be long and you’ll be wearing that old coat again and minusing trees with just one passing glance. Hang in there Man!!!
