Daisy, MO - It's a story of perseverance, refusal to quit, stick-to-atavism. Whatever you choose to call it, Steve Rodgers of Whitewater, Missouri proved it helps to have it if you want to win the Missouri State Championship.
His Treeing Walker female, Skuna River Candy came up a bridesmaid last year, finishing second. This year, despite thunderstorms and gusty winds at drawout, Steve and Candy went out and got the job done, posting the high score for the evening's contest and earning the coveted State Champion crown.
Candy scored 475 plus to beat the field of 46 coonhounds, a record for the AKC Missouri State Championship. For the effort, Candy earned for Rodgers the State Championship trophy and the 20-volt specially-embroidered K Light belt light. Candy is co-owned by Steve's brother Darren, also of Whitewater, Missouri.
Connie Bigl y of St. Clair, Missouri handled Asile Modglin's Treeing Walker male Midnight Prime Time Hud to the State Show Championship title in a good show consisting of 28 entries, judged by Jack Street of Patton, Missouri. Prime Time Hud is owned by Asile Modglin of Newhaven, Missouri. The win earned 12 AKC Black Gold Bench Show Spectacular points for Bigley as well as a portable show bench and the AKC State Show Champion trophy.
The State Coon Hunters of Missouri are to be congratulated for a first rate event. See full details including winner's photos on the Message Forum in the thread titled "2007 AKC Missouri State Championship - Daisy, Missouri."
