The Top Sixteen AKC/Black Gold - Gold Medal *cast-winning hounds from January 1 through December 31 2007 will qualify for the AKC/Black Gold - Gold Medal Championship. The Top-Sixteen hounds will compete for the following:
- A minimum of $10,000 in cash prizes at the Championship!
- A one-of-a-kind AKC/Black Gold - Gold Medal Champion trophy.
- A year's supply of Black Gold Dog Food! Each Final Four participant in the 2008 AKC/Black Gold - Gold Medal Championship will receive a one-year supply of Black Gold Dog Food.
- A full page color advertisement in American Cooner Magazine
- A special AKC/Black Gold - Gold Medal Champion jacket.
- A special AKC/Black Gold - Gold Medal Reserve Champion jacket.
- The Final Four hounds at each AKC/Black Gold Gold Medal Event will receive an exclusive Final Four cap by Tejas Toppers.
Clubs may book their AKC/Black Gold - Gold Medal Events by submitting the AKC event application and checking the "Gold Medal Event" box on the application.

The application fee remains the same as for a regular hunt at $25 and the same $3.00 per dog recording fee applies. Compare to PKC Pro-AM ! Regardless of the entry fee you choose, all you send to AKC is $73.00 and nothing more! A 16-dog Gold Medal Event with a $200 entry fee will pay your club $938.00!
AKC/Black Gold - Gold Medal Events are available as a 16 or 64 dog hunt with entry fees beginning at $50 and rising in $25 increments up to $250 at the 64-dog level.
*Cast wins must be earned with a total score of plus points in order to qualify.

Announcing AKC Gold Medal "Elimination" Coonhound Events - From day one hunters have asked for an elimination-type hunt for the average coon hunter, something everyone, from the forks-of-the-creek coon hunter to the club treasurer could enjoy. Here it is:
Single Night Gold Medal Elimination Event ALL AKC Black Gold Gold Medal Events are World Qualifying Events!
- Maximum entry- 16 dogs.
- Entry fee maybe advertised at $50, $75, $100 or $200.
- Will be held as a one-night event only, Friday or Saturday.
- Four casts early, one final cast late. Final to be hunted unless majority agrees to split.
- All cast winners advance regardless of score unless scratched.
- Hunting judges will be used in early round.
- Two non-hunting judges will be used in final round - clubs responsibility.
- All cast wins earned with plus points will count towards an AKC title.
- All cast winners with plus points will count toward annual Gold Medal Top-16 Race.
- All cast winners with plus points qualify for the AKC World Championship.
- Club may hold additional 16-Gold Medal Events if each fill, partial additional events not allowed.
- Club is permitted to hold standard AKC Money event if and only if the Gold Medal Event fills.
- Advise entries be taken and retained by the club until the event.
- No Youth or Senior casts at Black Gold Gold Medal Events.

Two Night Gold Medal Elimination Event
- Maximum entry- 64 dogs.
- Entry fee may be advertised at $25 increments from $100-$250.
- Will be held as a two-night event, Friday and Saturday.
- Club will be responsible for taking pre-entry reservations.
- Sixteen casts early Friday.
- If sixteen casts do not fill in early round, a late round may be held to reach a maximum of 64 dogs.
- All cast winners advance regardless of score unless scratched.
- Hunting judges will be used in early round Friday.
- One non-hunting judge will be used in semi-final round early Saturday.
- Two non-hunting judges will be used in final round late Saturday.
- Four Casts early Saturday, one final cast late Saturday.
- Final to be hunted unless majority agrees to split.
- All cast wins earned with plus points will count towards an AKC title.
- All cast winners with plus points will count toward annual Gold Medal Top-16 Race.
- All cast winners with plus points qualify for the AKC World Championship.
- All semi-finalists (1st round cast winners) not advancing will receive entry fee amount as awards.
- Club is required to place a full page ad in prior month American Cooner.
- On Saturday Club may hold other AKC Coonhound events such with no additional event fee.
- No Youth or Senior casts at Black Gold Gold Medal Events.
